Efergy eLite that shows energy and money wasted

    efergyelite.jpg
The Efergy eLite is an energy power monitor to help you measure your electricity usage. It easily connects to the power meter and gives wireless readings with its handheld unit kept up to 200 feet away. It shows how much energy you have been using and how much money you have already spent on it. Great thing, this. Way too much energy is being wasted and these are great for people who actually care to make a difference. It cannot however, export its data to the PC for graphing and visualization.

Greenphotoprint – America’s first 100% sustainable photo lab for green printing

    RickOffice.jpg
Every time you smile for some shutterbug, you need to worry about the side-effects of the procedure that follows, which is photo-printing. Almost everything that we do these days needs to be monitored with a green meter. A simple task of photo printing is also not so green. But Rick Colson of EcoVisual Communications has found a cleaner alternative to this too. The company has just launched America’s first 100% green, 100% sustainable photo “lab” at www.greenphotoprint.com. This new firm is the first to offer an exclusive combination of totally green, museum-quality, archival photographic print services. Greenphotoprint replaces the traditional non-eco-friendly toxic, petroleum-based, silver-based and tree-derived materials with papers made from 100% recycled cotton, VOC-free water-based inks, and mounting substrates made from soy and 100% post-consumer recycled paper. Such a non-toxic printing is not only safe for our health but also saves our environment by reducing carbon emissions as well as the burden on landfills.
    Thanks Rick Colson

Google’s energy monitoring software is for real…..coming soon!

    powermeter_.jpg
Time and again we have followed Google on its mission of promoting green living. There are times when Google has been misinterpreted but we have also reported about their noteworthy green steps like the free web service, dubbed PowerMeter. Back then, in Feb, the idea of PowerMeter was only conceived but now things are shaping up for commercial use too. Dan Reicher, Director for Climate Change and Energy Initiatives Google has confirmed that the company is in talks with utilities companies in the United Sates, Europe and Asia to make the product available shortly to general consumers. Since this program promises to help homeowners to save up to 15% of energy, I am sure many of us will not miss this energy-saving, bill-reducing free web service.

Chromasun’s enhanced solar powered air conditioning for hot and dry climates

    Solar_Air_Conditioner.jpg
The rise in temperature has a direct impact on our electricity bills…..both soar faster and make us break out in cold sweat. The culprit is power guzzling air-conditioner. But here is a green way to beat the heat and the escalating bills! A multifunction solar system Chromasun from Australia is the latest entry into solar powered air conditioning. It contains photovoltaic and solar thermal technology that harvest light and heat from the sun. The makers say that this device can has 75 per cent efficient in converting electric power into solar thermal system. It contains mirrors, receivers and a concentrator and silicon solar cells. This system generates electricity from the cells and the waste heat is used to increase the temperature of water or oil in a sealed tube to 220 degrees celsius.

Eco-friendly space engines by Starchaser Industries

    starchaser.jpg
Starchaser Industries developed an environmentally friendly rocket engine. They are conducting a full test firing using grant funding of £130,730 from the North West regional Development Agency (NWDA). This is for the sakes of developing a unique eco-friendly rocket engine that will find eventual use as a safety system aboard commercial space rockets. This hybrid rocket engine will utilize green propellants and the technology can be used aboard space launch vehicles as recovery systems to ensure the safe retrieval of astronauts in the event of an emergency situation. The project uses hydrogen peroxide as an oxidiser combined with solid fuel made from waste materials such as used car tyres.

Solar powered I-Slate with probabilistic CMOS to replace slates and chalks

    i-slate.jpg
Playing with the small slates using chalks or those slate pens are always the better memories of childhood. Now however with the world zooming into the futuristic mode, an Indian researcher and his colleagues at the Rice University has discovered the I-Slate. This is a solar-powered, WiFi, stylus-controlled tablet PC that uses probabilistic CMOS technology designed by Dr Krishna Palem and his team. This was introduced at the IEEE’s 125th Anniversary event and can download lesson plans and help children with their math. The prototypes will start making the rounds in India coming spring.
