Smokey Amp from recycled cigarette boxes

    smokey_amp.jpg
It doesn’t take a degree in aerodynamics to see that all great music came from people who loved to smoke, smoke up or dwell in smoke. One custom amp designer at Fender thought that why not mix these factors along with the idea of recycle and bring out a pretty amusing new amp called the Smokey amp. It’s a high-performing amp housed in a used
cigarette carton. It just requires one square battery that will give you about ten hours of playing time alongside the 0.5w output into the built-in speaker.

Elliott Montgomery’s solar-powered MicroCycle project – A green bag for a green idea!

    solar-powered-microcycle.jpg
Many of us boast of eco-conscious but how many have dared to step out of the box to raise awareness by doing something substantial? Put your hands together for Elliott Montgomery who stepped out in the Union Square, New York City for a green cause. Along with his team, he set up a solar powered MicroCycle project. This booth exhibited the need to recycle salvaged materials into eco-friendly cloth shopping bags. They actually manufactured such green bags and sold them, not for money but for a green idea. People could pick one up by simply providing ideas about localized manufacture, materials sourcing and likewise. There are so many ideas that are hibernating in our minds. Its just that we need someone like Elliott Montgomery to help us tap our grey cells to churn out green ideas!

Wall-E just got cuter, with recycled scrap

    recycled_wall_e.jpg
Wall-E found a special place in everyone’s hearts after the hit movie Wall-E. Whether It was his unconditional love for Eva, or his cute little eyes, everything about Wall-E was so cute! Filth Wizardry took thus cute-ness to another level, by creating Wall-E toy out of recycled Scrap. He used random kitchen scrap like cereal boxes, yogurt cups, empty tape dispensers, wrapping paper tubes, a bucket and a plastic drink holder to create this awesome Wall-E toy. Looks like there’s nothing called scrap for Filth Wizardry after all. Recycling scrap to make toys like these is certainly a great option rather than buying those over hyped and overpriced plastic toys of movie characters.

Recycled water for Microsoft by Quincy

Quincy_logo.jpg Millions of dollars are being spent by Quincy, Washington to build a system that will supply recycled water for huge data centers operated by Microsoft, Yahoo, Intuit and Sabey Corp. With this system, the city will be able to divert to gray water rather deplete its potable water. This project is very similar to the one in San Antonio, which was the key factor in Microsoft’s choice of cities for a $500 million data center. The Quincy project will be treating 5 million gallons of water everyday. The project is expected to cost around $9 million. The first phase will cost $4.5 million. Data centers use water to cool down. All the heat from the servers is managed through cooling towers where the hot waste water from the data centers is cooled with the heat being removed through evaporation. When this kind of process is done in a mega-data center, the amount of water used is unimaginable and sometimes exceed the entire city’s water requirements.

The Do-It-Yourself iPhone Dock from recycled CD

    recycled-cd-iphone-dock_1.jpg
If you have loads of unwanted CDs lying around your house, you can make yourself and iPhone or iPod dock and it is the best way to recycle instead of just throwing it away. It works well with DVDs too. To make one for yourself, you will need Dermel, 11 to 12 CDs or DVDs, you will also need 4/5 more disks than the height of your iPhone charging connector on the USB cable. Mark out the width of the silver connector that goes into your iPhone on the centre of one of the CD. Cut this out using a Dermel or similar so you can poke the silver connector through but not the whole connector end. Make sure you can attach your iPhone and it starts charging. The thickness of the disk might be ok but you might need to take off a little from the disk to make a perfect fit depending on your charger connecting cable. Once this is completed, mark the full width of the charging connector in the center of the next disk. Cut this out making sure the charging end will pass right through the disk but will be a tight fit too. Repeat this process until you have stacked enough disks so the bottom of the charging connector is flush with the last disk and the cable can lay flat across the disk.

Recycled Orange Bubble Tiles will add zing to the décor

    Orange_Bubble_Tiles.jpg
Orange can be green too! Read on to understand the multi-colored statement. Urban Archaeology’s orange dome-shaped tiles are ideal to juice up the interiors of any den in a green way. They are shaped out of cultured marble which is actually 50% recycled material. And for those who always felt that recycled products are look grey-n-gray then it’s time to cheer up with these vibrant orange dome tiles. The tiles are designed so perfectly that they feel more like resin. A molding process forms the surface and shape, resulting in 3-dimensional, modern tiles that can then be fitted together like pieces of a puzzle. As I am penning down about these tiles, I realized that they also look like inflated orange bubbles. Wouldn’t your bathroom or kitchen look juicy when decked up with these green-orange tiles?
