Since central heating consumes abundance of energy, it is time to take a look at the self powered EcoFan. This heat-powered fan utilizes the heat from the stove to generate its own electricity. Isn’t it the most economical way to effectively circulate warm air directly into the living area? And also make the optimum use of the heat energy that is otherwise shoved out through chimney. Moreover the portable fan is smart enough to start automatically and adjust speed with the stove’s temperature. Ideal for locations which are deprived of electricity, this kind of heat-up system promises green warm times without harming the environment. It also helps us to save wood and forests. For just about $100, people from any corner of the world can keep their dens comfortably warm.

Hot air balloons – The latest renewable energy supplier on the horizon

Though hot air balloon is known as the oldest successful human-carrying flight technology, the future will be powered by the same! Brisbane-based Solartran decided to deviate off the usual renewable energy alternatives like solar and wind power to give rise to energy generating hot air balloons. Ian Edmonds designed a giant engine with a balloon as its “piston”. A greenhouse traps solar energy, providing hot air to fill the balloon. And as the balloon rises it pulls on an earthbound tether, spinning a generator to produce electricity. Once the balloon has ascended to its apex of 3 kilometers it automatically releases its air and descends, giving the entire process a similar arc to the workings of a two-stroke engine.

When the sun didn’t shy much from showering us with its heat in the month of November, we mentioned about the solar powered robotic lawn mower. And these days, when the same sun’s heat isn’t enough to keep us comfortably warm to step out, we bring to you another solar charged device to take care of the nastiest chore of the season. i-Shovel is the world’s smartest snow shovel that can clear the snow off the driveway in a green automated style. Tweaked with sensors, this smart machine can detect snow accumulation and determine the perimeter of the area to be shoveled. Fitted with electric batteries that can be optional charged with solar power too, the bot can keep shoveling for about 4,000 square feet on a full charge. Wonder what the prefix ‘i’ signifies in the name….or is it just the lucky marketing mantra? If you are hunting for a buy-here option, then hold on till the next winters for a commercial version as it is still a prototype.
