The study funded by the US Federal Aviation Administration has been published as an MIT Technical Report. Domestic flights in the United States alone emit about 6 million tons of CO2 from taxiing per year. In Europe too, planes spend an estimated 10 to 30 per cent of their journey time taxiing on runways emitting astounding amounts of in the CO2 bargain.
