It\u2019s the same with the proposed Rhode Island offshore wind farm. This one was large as it was. And it just grew larger. With project costs increased to a whopping $6 billion, Deepwater Wind however hope that the larger wind farm will help decrease energy costs due to increased production. We hope so too. With 200 turbines, at least 18 miles off the Rhode Island coast, an increase to 1,000 Megawatts from 350 MW, and an undersea transmission network stretching from Massachusetts to New York costing between $500 million and $1 billion, the costs of electricity will decrease from 24.4 cents per kilowatt-hour to 18.7 cents\/kWh.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nWe sure hope things go as planned for Deepwater Wind, and the size explosion of the Rhode Island offshore wind farm helps produce some cheaper, cleaner and greener renewable energy.<br \/>\n[<a href=\"http:\/\/www.treehugger.com\/files\/2010\/12\/proposed-rhode-island-offshore-wind-farm-1000-mw.php\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"follow external noopener noreferrer\">Treehugger<\/a>]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When it rains it pours, we all know that good old saying.
