\"Biofuel.jpg\"<\/a><\/span>The U.S. Navy has taken quite a few green initiatives before, trying to turn the force out there in the blues a lot greener. A while ago, we came across the biofuel powered super sonic jet, the Green Hornet Navy F\/A-18<\/a>. This time around, the Navy shopped for a good 20,000 gallons of algae fuel. Solazyme, a producer of this fuel, delivered the fuel to the Navy. The Soladiesel Renewable Naval Distillate fuel will help the force achieve its goal of generating 50% of its energy requirements from renewable sources. Inking a deal with the Department of Defense, Solazyme has commited to delivering an additional 150,000 gallons of algae-derived advanced biofuel by next year.<\/p>\n


\nThe U.S. defense forces are keen on decreasing their reliance on fuels sourced from countries elsewhere, choosing to use fuel made at home for security reasons. And fuels like these just help the force get a lot greener!
