It has been a major problem in Athens, Greece. They are concerned apart from the health issues is how it will affect ancient historical sites especially Acropolis. So to do their bit, Athens has ordered from Mercedes Benz 108 new trash trucks that will be running on Compressed Natural Gas. These trucks will emit about 90 percent fewer particulates than the diesel trucks they will be replacing and 25 percent less carbon dioxide when running on natural gas. If these trucks are operated on biogas then the reduction is 100 percent. The high octane methane also allows the engines to operate more silently than gas or diesel engines.
