The country is gearing up for a \u2018National Solar Mission\u2019 which is still not officially out in open. Touted to be world&#8217;s most ambitious solar strategy, the plans includes a national target of 20 gigawatts (GW) of solar generation capacity by 2020; 100GW by 2030; and an astounding 200GW by 2050. However at present the green scene is bleak as it is estimated that only 700 megawatts is generated from photovoltaic cells each year. Akin to the German strategy, this plan too includes a feed-in tariff. Once enforced, it will be mandatory for all hospitals, hotels, and residential complexes larger than 500 sq meters install solar hot water systems. And just when you are wondering how can India support such an expensive project ($20bn over a 30-year period), let me tell you that the government is going to get wiser by levying heavy taxes on fossils fuels which are currently heavily subsidized. Such a move will help India to fight climate change as well as provide basic energy consumption for hundred thousand of residents below poverty line.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nGreenpeace is one of the organizations that leaked India\u2019s green plan\u2019s details.
