California is all set to receive an early Christmas present this year, and it’s sure something we’d all like in our cities too! Actually, it’s a third of the 4,600 presents, electric vehicle charging stations that Coulomb Technologies is planning to install, for free around the country. The Campbell, California based company will start off by setting up stations like these in Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Jose and San Francisco Bay Area. After which, Austin, Texas; Detroit; New York; Orlando, Fla.; Redmond, Wash.; and Washington, D.C will have some of these too.

The firm plans to set up around 1,000 of these stations before December. The rest will be installed by September 2011. The installations are a part of the $37-million ChargePoint America project. A $15-million stimulus grant administered by the Department of Energy through the Transportation Electrification Initiative will help with the funding too. Initiatives like these are bound to encourage the use of electric vehicles. We’d love some of these in our cities too!
