• Sony goes Green with mercury free button batteries

  • sony_mercury_free_alkaline_batteries.jpg Sony has announced plans to introduce six different models of button batteries that contain no mercury. The company, which is not known to be particularly environment friendly, has said that it is the first one to have found a way to mix absorbent raw material into the cathode, thus removing the need for mercury in its batteries. Sony uses Mercury, which a toxic element both for humans and the environment, at the rate of 470kg per 340I every year. Therefore, the introduction of the new batteries, which would be sold only in Japan for now, is indeed good news. Sony also plans to revamp its entire range of line-up of alkaline button batteries to go the eco-friendly way.
