McLaren Automotive plans to launch an “eco-friendly” supercar in two years. The company was being restructured and the road car division would be made into a separate company as it winds down production of the Mercedes SLR. The new car is currently code-named as P11. The P11 is expected to cost US $ 275,000 when it is launched and will have technology from the racing arena. It is expected that P11 will be made of carbon fiber to bring down the weight. It will also sport the KERS hybrid drive system to improve both efficiency and performance of the car.

The PJ World Yacht is a yacht that adheres to some of the strictest environmental regulations governing many types of vessels. It is massive in size measuring 82 meters and has an anticipated delivery date of 2010. PJ World is designed to comply with Det Norske Veritas’ (DNV) Clean classification notation. In short, it means that the vessel’s owner and operator have chosen to comply with stricter limitations on air emissions and sea discharges. Among other things, the restrictions govern the use of refrigerants and TBT-based antifouling paint, specify how sewage and other waste water gets treated onboard, and regulates combustion-machinery emissions of nitrogen and sulfur oxides.

The American army is using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in Afghanistan which is nearly untraceable from the ground. They are used heavily by defense forces in overseas missions when uniformed men are already at a disadvantage by just being at a totally foreign and hostile territory. Using UAVs terrain can be scanned and intelligence can be gathered. It is also a possible that it flies on alternative fuels. UAVs are used to minimize loss of life of soldiers and pilots in dangerous zones. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) is developing an improved version of these aircrafts that can travel to distant places more efficiently and more quietly and run on the newer fuel cell technology.

Peapod is such a small little cute object known to mankind. So when the Peapod Mobility was showcased at the New York Auto Show, it attracted a lot of interest and awe. The design is apparently influenced by three things. It is a neighborhood electric vehicle and has all of the benefits and drawbacks that entails: zero emissions, a 25 mph top speed, two-cents a mile estimated running costs, and a 30-mile range. A full charge takes 6-8 hours from a 110V outlet. Its design is also what stands out with its curvy body. Also the entire top is see-through and removable, for example, and all four mesh seats in the rolling prototype we got to spend time with are Aeron-like and greatly increase the spacious feel of the interior. There is a push-button drive/reverse selector and an integrated iPod dock.

Toyota known to make such wonderful cars has come with this unique technology to its next generation Prius range. The new range will feature the option for you to cool the heat in your car by the time you reach your car. It is by using the car’s battery to power remote activation of the air-conditioner. Up to three minutes before you get in the car, the car will be cooled down so that you don’t feel a heat wave hit you by opening the door and getting in.

It’s such joy to see the old babies come alive with an improved, or at least revived, version. A British design student Ryan Skelley has created renderings of a two-seat electric roadster for 2025 that would commemorate the centennial of the 1925 Sunbeam Tiger land speed record car. The latter has the reputation of using a V12 engine going to a record speed of 145 miles-per-hour. The new car is estimated to use lithium titanate batteries to power an electric motor and go up to 60 mph in just 2.3 seconds and reach a limited top-end of 160 mph.

Not every thing green sells on our blue Earth! At least that is case of the China made EV BYD F3DM. Touted to be a Volt copy, the F3DM was also seen as a threat to other US made electric cars. More so because the company makes its own proprietary LiFePO4 battery and can currently sell the car for a US equivalent of $22,000. Now that too much money when converted in to Chinese currency. Also the lack of charging stations and non-supporting government policies are playing the role of speed-breakers for its success in China. This plug-in e-sedan needs nine hours to charge from home. Also the promised 60 miles of range can be achieved only if it is driven under 50 km/h (31 mph). Compare it to GM’s high-quality and extensively tested Chevy Volt and you will surely find many loops.

The essence of India is in its streets, especially the most unique richshaws. There is nothing more nostalgic and adorable of India than the feel of sitting on a bumpy ride on the rickshaw in the monsoons. The big dudes finally got the hang of its importance and are joining hands to bring out the first solar powered auto rickshaw. India is getting help from (but of course) the UK courtesy of the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC) who has set up an incubation hub in partnership with the Indian government. The hub will involve the Indian Institute of Management – Ahmedabad, the UK Carbon Trust and British Petroleum’s Alternative Energy Group. They will work together to design a solar powered rickshaw and other technologies that can be used for Indian city and rural living, as well as transport. Ideas will be pitched in by all major entrepreneurs and brains.
