• Giant wind turbines designed by Arup generate 10MW of power

The wind has been blowing with all its might ever since mankind can remember, though we haven’t really paid much heed to its potential until very recently. Wind turbines to harvest the energy of the wind and help generate electricity seem to be one of the best ways to do away with the use of coal and fossil fuel for the same that do tend to punch holes into our environment. Engineers from England, America and Norway are hell bent on designing the father of all wind turbines, 10MW offshore structures that will be twice the size of the comparatively puny ones we use today. Well, here’s one of the many, designed by engineering firm Arup with help from Rolls Royce, Shell and BP, known as the Aerogenerator. The wind harvester rotates on an axis stretching 275m from blade tip to tip and might soon take its place in the world between 2013 and 2014.

Standing 600ft high above the sea waves and buckled up to the sea bed, these Aerogenerators will each power up around 5,000-10,000. We eagerly await the coming of these power generating giants!
