Remote controlled powered not by batteries but by shaking

    shake_remote_control.jpg
This is so cool. Instead of just shaking off to spice your food with pepper and salt, now you can even change channels on TV and adjust volume. This is possible with this new design of a remote control that does not require any batteries. All you need to do is press a button on the side of this ergonomically made device and then shake it to change channels and increase or decrease the volume. All you need to do is shake it into one direction for one action. This is useful to keep your hands trimmed and thin and also kill the guilt of using batteries and polluting the world. Such a great idea to balance the present and the past (of not using batteries or remote controls) and also of comfort and conscience.

    Safaricom_solar_phone.jpg
You know what the best thing of Africa is, there is no shortage of sunshine and Kenya is utilizing this free source of energy which is abundantly available by launching a solar powered phone. Kenya’s leading mobile network operator Safaricom has launched a cheap solar-powered mobile phone aimed at primarily at users in the rural areas of Kenya. Kenya also plans to plant 7.6 billion trees over the next 20 years. Now that is really a very good move. The mobile handset will cost only US$ 39. With 18 million active mobile phone users in Kenya, the only sad part is that only 18% of the 36 million population have access to electricity and because of this they cannot charge their phones. During the launch, Kenya’s Environment Minister also announced that the country would plant 7.6 billion trees over the next 20 years to redress decades of chopping down forest cover, the effect of which is now being felt in acute water and power shortages.

Solar Power Shower for a garden bath

    Solar_Power_Shower.jpg
This is an odd invention. You can have a hot shower from sun’s energy. The Solar Power Shower is a device which uses the sun’s powers to heat up to eight litres of water to up to 140 degrees F. All you need to do is connect your garden hose to this and then in less than two hours of sunlight you will get hot water for a steamy bath. But what’s weird is, why on earth would one want to take a shower in the garden? This will obviously only be possible if you have a huge bush wall around your home else wouldn’t it be a good show for passer-bys? This thing is useful as it will definitely save you electricity costs. It is priced at $199.95.

    infrared-carbon-dioxide-co2-sensor.jpg
We have always read about calculating the carbon footprints in the air and the likes but we have never really understood how. Maybe with this particular batter-powered sensor, K-33 from CO2Meter.com will give us an idea how to. It apparently can measure CO2, temperature and humidity. The K-33 can store up to 5,400 data points in on-board memory and downloaded later for analysis. In its sleep mode, four AA batteries can be used to power it and can also record atmospheric conditions for over weeks or months at a time.

New Sony Rechargeable batteries are long lasting

    Sony_Lithium_battery.jpg
This new lithium battery introduced by Sony has 4 times the life of a normal lithium battery combined with high-power. This battery uses olivine type lithium iron phosphate as the cathode material. Apart from having a high power density and an extended 2000 charge-discharge cycles, it can still keep 80% of the charge in itself after those 2000 charge-discharge cycles which is very impressive. This battery can charge rapidly and if given 30 minutes, it would be 99% charged by then. It will be first used in tools and then gradually it will move to consumer goods where I bet the majority of the usage would be. Just imagine by using this how much you will be saving on ordinary batteries and also the waste minimization on the disposal of such batteries. It is pure logic, the more the life of the battery the longer it will take to get a new one. Yup! A small change makes a big difference.
